Durham is within 2.5 hrs to the Atlantic Ocean and about a 3.5 hr drive to the Western mountains. We have 4 seasons. Our winter is not that harsh, all the while our summers are definitely warm. The fall and spring are great in NC. We have lots of fresh vegetables from local vendors and lots of pumkins.
Now to my favorite subject, home ownership. We have older homes that have been restored to perfection. New home subdivisions are very plentiful. If working with a fixer-upper is your thing, I can find that for you.
